Nesting Instinct

This baby is definitely coming much faster than we (or at least I) anticipated. After procrastinating (for over a year) on getting the condo in order, we are now definitely scrambling to get everything done. (I think the nesting instinct is hitting both of us!) Our place looks pretty ridiculous right now: crown molding lying on the floor in the baby room, wiring taped up to the ceiling, paint samples all over the living room and baby room, piles of crates for storage by the door, and new sconce and track lighting in boxes on the floor. We spent a full day yesterday cleaning out. (If someone has any idea of how I accumulated 52 highlighters, please let me know.) A month from now, this place is going to look great. Right now, I’m going nuts.

Quick facts: Our baby is now a head of lettuce, Lauren is looking remarkably pregnant these days, and there are fewer than 10 weeks to go.

Website update

So I’ve given in. Sort of.  Since I was about 16, I’ve had some form of made-from-scratch website.  I’m fairly certain I even had a “Made With Notepad” button for a while.  Now that I’m actually an adult, that has become unsustainable.  I can’t update the site easily, Lauren can’t post anything without my help, and things tend to break without warning or notice.  With a real job, a wife, and a baby on the way, this didn’t seem like a good way to go; I have decided to move to something easier to manage. Of course, being me, I couldn’t just use a prepacked blog site. Enter WordPress.  I think it strikes a nice balance between ease of setup/administration and ability to play around.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be making some changes and migrating old content over to this site.  Feedback is welcome.

Coming sooner will be some more pics (especially of Lauren and her belly) and a “real” update from me.

Mexico and Milkshakes

I am now almost at the end of of my second trimester and things have been going swimmingly. Literally, I mean– I have taken up swimming lately. Since bike riding is out for me this summer, I’ve tried to swim laps more than usual and have tried to make use of the Bethesda Pool lap lanes. I also went on a walk-jog the other night. I think I must have looked ridiculous because I was moving in a jogging motion, but probably was not going a whole lot faster than someone walking. Ah well, so are the sacrifices that must accompany a growing belly.

Week 25 Belly

In addition to being a swimmer and a walk-jogger, I’ve become a huge proponent of cookies and cream milkshakes. David actually decided that we needed to violate the Alton Brown rule against buying kitchen “unitaskers,” and purchased us a milkshake machine so that we can make even more milkshakes. I figure that as long as I continue swimming and walk-jogging as I consume these milkshakes, I can strike a fair balance.

You may be wondering if I have had any cravings. Here are my reflections on the subject thus far. First trimester- obsessed with spicy food and curry, Second trimester- eggplant parmesan and milkshakes. Third trimester? Well, you will have to wait some time for me to report my findings. Meanwhile, as someone who used to enjoy eating fish a lot, fish has really not appealed to me at all.

For my birthday, David and I visited Obelisk, which was really delicious Italian cuisine. I hope that having a child will not mean we have to give up periodic trips to try out restaurants listed on the top dining lists. We’ve now been to Palena, Minibar, and Obelisk… with many more to check off on the list.

Take a look at these new photos, which include some from our trip to the Hamptons, LBI with the cousins, my wonderful trip to Mexico with my parents, and some new belly photos.

Summer Lovin’ 2010

Since it’s been over a year since we last provided you all with any words of wisdom on this blog, we figured it was time. In the last year, much has happened. After moving into our new condo, we had various ups and downs in life. Since I’d rather focus on the “ups”, we can report the most exciting bit of news, which is that we are making a human! We are already over half way in and so far so good! I am happy to say that I never got sick at all early on and have only experienced one major symptom- an expanding belly, which I can say, has also led to another side effect, shopping for new clothes that fit over said belly.

If we take as long to post our next blog entry as it’s taken to write this one, our current URL, will need to be edited, since it will be David, Lauren, and _____ (B”H)! In addition to trying to get David to listen to me when I share with him the latest name that I like, we have been busy thinking about how to reorganize our condo to make it comfortable for 3, looking at strollers, car seats, etc.

We are really excited as we approach this major event in our lives, and look forward to sharing in this time with all of our family and friends.
